CTW Foundation Scholarship

What is the CTW Foundation Inc.?

The foundation was formed because my first wife was studying for her LSAT for Business and Corporate Law. Her dream was to create a law firm to help establish minority owned companies and give corporate and civil support to them. The CTW Foundation is offering a scholarship intended to assist and encourage high school seniors who are pursuing a degree in the fields of Architecture, Urban Renewal,Urban Economics, Corporate Law, Tax Law, Real Estate Law and Real Estate Development in U.S. post-secondary institutions. These disciplines are chosen because we firmly believe in rebuilding our communities. If we want to strengthen our communities and give them voices, we need people to move into positions in which we don’t have high representation. This scholarship will begin to help us accomplish this goal.

Why are we doing it?

Scholarships are usually offered to people who have excelled in the traditional areas such as academics or sports. We wanted to make this scholarship available to students who wouldn’t typically qualify for traditional scholarships. After I graduated high school and entered college, I quickly learned that I was a student who didn’t qualify for typical scholarships. My grades weren’t the best and my academic resume was terrible because I chose not to participate in school activities during high school. It wasn’t until I began working hard in college by making the dean’s list and participating in campus organizations did I become eligible for scholarships.

Not every student will take the same route I took. There are numerous potential roadblocks that are very common for students within our communities to deal with without having to name them. Whatever the case may be, we want to reward those who completed high school even though it may not have been the way you’re expected to. If a student’s situation required them to spend more of their time working, so they were unable to participate in extracurricular activities or do much more than focus on academics, it shouldn’t be held against them. The criteria for this scholarship allows students with different backgrounds to be able to move forward compete at the college level.
